Menu reviews
Healthy Kids work with schools around Australia to help them adhere to the relevant state or territory canteen guidelines. In particular, we work very closely with schools in the ACT and NSW.
We can help ACT schools to meet the National Healthy School Canteen Guidelines, and NSW schools to meet the Nutrition in Schools Policy, by assessing school canteen menu against relevant strategy. For NSW, that’s Fresh Tastes @ School. A menu review classifies your menu items as GREEN or AMBER and identifies any items that don’t meet the strategy (classified RED or BANNED). Members automatically receive two menu reviews every year.
Our experienced dietitians thoroughly analyse every product on your menu and a full report of findings is compiled for you along with tips and strategies on how to improve your menu and ensure it meets the relevant state or territory guidelines.
NSW Government schools are required to comply with the Fresh Tastes @ School strategy as part of the NSW Government Nutrition in Schools Policy. Under this policy, school principals are responsible for ensuring that canteen operations are reviewed at least every two years.
If you’re not sure if you need or are ready for a menu review, use our Canteen Menu Checklist to check your menu. Be warned though, all menu items need to be looked over very carefully to correctly classify them. This is what our experienced dietitians will do during a menu review.
If you’re a Healthy Kids member and would like to request a menu review, please fill in the application form and contact us with any questions.
